Half step by half step
We saw some decent progress on Friday, perhaps not universally with USDJPY springing a reprise correction and GBPUSD that made a unilateral decision to outstrip the rest of the bunch. Where does this place us and what does it all mean?
In general, nothing has gone terribly wrong – and actually, for the most part everything is quite constructive. It has left a few puzzles but ones that are either minor or just require a little more attention. The base line is that we have seen the expected Dollar losses. Has this completed the weakness? I very much doubt that – and considering the two Continental Europeans are poised just above prior (Dollar) corrective lows, this could still generate a slow day today. Both have pushed their way to the opposite side of the 4-hour Price Equilibrium Clouds, probably enough to make a statement of intent, but not quite enough that they can still see a correction. Indeed, that is how I see the most likely outlook for today.
In the meantime, following the strength in GBPUSD, it should now slow and generate more swings and potential for a modest sideways move. This seems to have a loose correlation with AUDUSD that spent Friday pushing back higher and could complete a recycling – but it does have some risk of some whippy action – so take care.
Then came the whip back higher in USDJPY. Although it had made a potential base for the next development to occur – but had also room for a second pullback – which it did – but still remained below 121.50. This should provide a firmer follow-through. Given the expectation in EURUSD to be more range bound – but whippy – as long as USDJPY can muster firmer follow-through, we should see EURJPY begin to lose out. There is early risk of new highs but overall the outlook should remain bearish.
